Big Girl Food

Lilli Jo is moving on to big girl food, spaghetti here.

Baby girl is quite the diva. She won't feed herself anything that involves a mess. :) Just like she wouldn't dive into her cupcake on her birthday, if her food is messy she makes us feed it to her. We're working on learning how to eat with a spoon or a fork, but we're not quite there yet. In the meantime we do what we can to help her stay clean. Silly girl.

Lilli Jo's First Birthday Bash

Some of our wonderful guests

 Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa Beringer

 Yummy cupcakes from Grandma Mary

All the kids got to blow out candles!

The birthday girl, a little wary of the cupcake and singing

 So shy  :)

She wouldn't dive into the cupcake for anything. This was the most she got into it.

Grandpa Russ tried to feed her a big mouthful

And Aunt Nichole thought it would be funny to put some frosting on her nose. Lilli Jo didn't think it was that funny.

We had such a great time at our little birthday party for Lilli Jo. She got some super cute clothes (that will fit her someday, I'm sure) and some fun toys too. THANK YOU to our wonderful family for making her first birthday so memorable and fun. We are blessed to have each and every one of you in our lives.

More Camping Fun!

The first weekend in August took us to Lake Poinsett to help my sister celebrate her 30th birthday. We were delayed in getting there Friday night due the crazy storm that came through the area. We were probably 10 miles from the campground when Nichole called and told us not to come out. The wind had hit out there and Randy was left standing on a cooler throughout the storm to hold on to the awning on the camper. We turned around and headed back to Brookings to wait out the storm. We were probably crazy going back out when it was close to 10:00 at night, but we brought several (dry) blankets for everyone and we had all the fixings for breakfast the next morning.  :)

The next day could almost be considered downright miserable. It was windy. Really windy. We spent the morning huddled on the East side of the camper and then the sun (what little there was that day) moved so we had to as well. We managed to somewhat huddle behind a large tree for the rest of the day. Due to the wind, there was no swimming (our campsite was right on the water). The poor kids wouldn't have been able to stand in the water at all, let alone us!

The wind did die down enough for us to start a fire that evening, but it was still pretty windy. I nearly lost my chair and phone (gasp!) in the fire. That was a lesson to all to make sure your neighbor held you chair if you had to get up!

Sunday morning was gorgeous, of course. But we were all pretty tired from the day before, so after some breakfast we all headed home.

Regardless of the weather, we had an absolutely fantastic time celebrating with Nichole and her family and friends.

Happy 30th Birthday, Nichole!

 Lilli Jo loved the chairs

She stayed pretty entertained with the chairs and some shovels

Mom and Dad came out with what we soon dubbed the portable playground

Honey Days 2012

Checking out the parade.

Mom, doing a wonderful job announcing the parade with the mayor of Bruce.

There were hardly any kids near us, so Preston got a ridiculous amount of candy!

 The crazy Hovey clan!

Preston got a kick out of Chase's rather large chair.  :)

Any chair that can hold all three of those kids is alright in my book!

We had a great time at Honey Days this year. The weather was just about perfect, for a change, and the company was great! I sure do love getting together with this wonderful group, even if it is only once a year! Until next year, Rentsch's!

I'm 1 Today!!

Happy First Birthday to our beautiful baby girl!!

She's walking and jabbering (sometimes forming words like hi, mama, dada); she loves to climb furniture and is quite fearless. She loves to be tossed into the air too.

Little girls are made of sugar and spice, right? Well, Lilli Jo is most definitely full of sugar and spice. She's mischevious and can be quite the little stinker but she always follows it up with a snuggle and sometimes even a kiss.

The last time I checked she still had only eight teeth. She's not very cooperative about letting us check her teeth, so we don't do it very often! She's starting to explore new foods and we've discovered that she loves graham crackers. But she looked at us like we were crazy when we gave her some pieces of a chicken nugget.

We go in tomorrow for her well baby check up where we'll see how big she's getting. I know she is getting bigger but she still fits in those 6-9 month clothes!

Tonight, we celebrate with our family!

Tie-Dye Cuties!

Ever since Preston was born, I've purchased a piece of tie-dye apparel for him at the Brookings Summer Arts Festival. So this year I had to get something for Lilli Jo too. I found this dress and realized that it perfectly matched a tank top that I bought Preston last year. I didn't buy anything for Preston this year as I got him two shirts last year that still fit.

As you can see, Lilli Jo loves having her picture taken. Preston ... not so much. I have to take the picture when he's not really paying attention (as seen above on the chair) and when he is paying attention, I get the look that you see in the picture on the couch. He tries to hide when I have the camera pointed at him. The minute I put the camera away he begs for me to take his picture. Gotta love indecisve toddlers. :)
